New Forney Dentist Speaks at Chamber Luncheon Denise Bell Post Managing Editor

MESQUITE, TX, November 11, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thursday afternoon the Forney Chamber of Commerce held its monthly business luncheon and ForneyEUR s newest dentist, Dr. Melina Cozby of Forney Family Dentistry elaborated on the latest in dentistry services and technologies.

Enjoying a delicious enchilada lunch catered by Madres Cocina, chamber members stood for the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance and then listened as Ryan Kile of the Forney Hometown Christmas Committee gave an update on the fast approaching Christmas festival.

Kile explained EURwe are currently closed to vendors needing booths. WeEUR re out of space. We have over 80 vendors, not counting the Food Court vendors. We only have 5 sponsor packages left and we will be sold out of them, too.EUR

Closing Kile stated EURthatEUR s it, weEUR re almost done. But we are still taking entries for the parade so please get in touch with Skip if youEUR d like to be in the paradeEUR

Next up was the luncheons official speaker, Dr. Melina Cozby of Forney Family Dentistry located at 108 East Highway 80, Suite 190, in the shopping center next to McDonaldEUR s.

Assisted by a slide show presentation Dr. Cozby opened by explaining, EURI actually grew up in Forney. I was a Forney Jackrabbit until 8th grade but then I was home schooled after that. But my family still lives here and I absolutely love the community, so it was a dream come true to get back here.EUR

Excited to be opening her new practice in Forney, Dr. Cozby introduced her new staff and then elaborated on the features of the new dentist office.

She stated EURI am a denta-phob myself, I confess, so I donEUR t like going to the dentist. Most people donEUR t, so we tried to do everything in our power to make it more comfortable for everyone.EUR

Dr. Cozby said EURwe have flat screen tvs in every room so you can watch a movie. We even have ESPN. My husband made me get it. So, you guys can watch sports. We also have massage chairs and a coffee bar.EUR

Promoting the philosophy, EURMaking Your Whole Family SmileEUR Dr. Cozby explained that she sees patients of all ages and that the new dentist office offers a EURKidEUR s CornerEUR.

She stated EURit has Nickalodon and a Nintendo Wii, puzzles and books and all that stuff. So you are more than welcome to bring your kids if you have an appointment and they can wait out in the kidEUR s corner.EUR

Next expounding on oral cancer education and awareness, casually speaking before the large crowd Dr. Cozby jokingly stated EURI could have brought a bunch of yucky slides showing gum decease but I thought you might not like that while youEUR re eating lunch.EUR

She then went on to explain several facts about Oral Cancer including that EURevery hour of every day an American dies of oral cancer.EUR

She stated EUR30,000 people will be diagnosed with Oral Cancer this year alone in the United States. The death rate is higher for Oral Cancer than cervical, kidney, brain and liver (cancers).EUR

Dr. Cozby said EURthe survival rate is whatEUR s shocking. If you get diagnosed with Oral Cancer, in five years, thatEUR s a 50% survival rate. And to me, that is just not acceptable. That survival rate is because up until three years ago the only thing we had for a screening tool was a visual exam.EUR

EURBut now there are more advance technologies that allow us to catch it in the early stages and thatEUR s where weEUR re going to increase the survival rate. Because the good news is that 90% of oral cancer can be treated when detected in the early stagesEUR Dr. Cozby stated.

Following Dr. CozbyEUR s educational presentation, Kaufman County District Attorney Rick Harrison briefly addressed the crowd to invite them to attend the Kaufman County dedication on the VeteranEUR s Memorial Wall in Kaufman on Saturday.

He was followed by Forney BrookshireEUR s new Store Director David Pike, who stood to briefly announce upcoming events at BrookshireEUR s which include plans for a shrimp boil and a products tasting event.
